The famous private hospital on the hilltop of Hong Kong Island and the Matilda International Hospital had an extremely rare serious medical error. The right foot was used as a left foot doctor, which caused the patient to suffer an additional operation. The hospital admitted that a doctor performed foot and ankle surgery on a 31-year-old male patient in May to remove broken bones. However, due to five errors in the procedure, the operation was performed on the right foot by mistake. After the operation was completed, the staff of the hospital found the error, the patient The next day, he underwent surgery and successfully removed the broken bones of his left ankle. The hospital stated that it had suspended all surgery appointments for the doctor until it improved. The Department of Health has received a notification and investigation report from the hospital, which confirmed that it was a medical risk warning event. This accident may involve 5 errors. Mingde International Hospital stated that the male patient was admitted to the hospital on May 21 and underwent ankle and foot surgery to remove broken bones. The spokesperson said that the attending doctor first verifies the details of the operation with the patient before the operation, and the hospital uses the appointment information given to the hospital by the attending doctor for the four procedures of marking the operation location, pre-surgery verification, and post-surgery summary. However, after the doctor performed an operation on the patient's right ankle, the hospital staff discovered that the "wrong foot" was "wrong". The patient underwent another operation the next day to remove broken bones in his left ankle. Including the fact that there was no error during the operation, the whole incident involved 5 mistakes.
Had an absolutely wonderful experience at this brilliant hospital for the birth of our daughter. The doctors and midwives are so kind, friendly, professional and make the whole experience very personal and reassuring. Could not recommend this place highly enough.
2nd time having my babies delivered at Matilda, both times my experience has been amazing. Cannot ask for a better place to be taken care of after the surgery.
Professional and peaceful atmosphere
rude, pretentious doctors
*edit* no immediate action has been taken and I've not even heard from Matilda International Hospital so their response is completely false.I really wanted to like this hospital as it came highly recommend to me by many expats. I visited in December 2019 and had nothing but trouble from start to finish. First they x-rayed the wrong part of my leg despite confirming the location with both the nurse and technician (there were even incision scars). Then I was told I could have the consultation with the orthopedic surgeon but without the proper x-ray. We requested re-doing the x-ray before our consultation and were shocked they even suggested doing the consult without it. The consultation was also a dud and the surgeon did not provide much detailed information about the risks, the operation itself and what to expect post-op. My husband asked reception for help calling for a taxi, later while we were waiting I asked reception how long it would take for the taxi to arrive and they simply responded 'sorry there are no taxis available, it's busy'. We found many empty taxi's just outside the hospital's doorstep and were surprised they did not recommend this to us. Once we arrived back home in China I noticed one of the x-rays were missing and they had forgotten to pack it. They later mailed it out to my address in China. They had also billed me incorrectly, the invoicing was done so poorly that even the insurance company was unable to process it and it's yet to be processed. We also went when it was very quiet so it's not like they were busy? We had travelled all the way from China with the intention to have the surgery done at Matilda given it's reputation. We were just in awe at the lack of professionalism and the level of incompetence at every level and at every step of our appointment. We spent a lot of money and time traveling there and had our baby with us too so by the end of the ordeal we were just so exhausted and disappointed with our experience. I couldn't even justify the visit it was a total waste of time and money. I've heard good things about Matilda's maternity care so had high hopes the other departments would be good.
Horrible and incompetent staff (from reception desk all the way to doctors offices). If you have plenty of time to spare and you like hanging out in hospitals and on the road, Matilda is def the place to be for you! They love setting up pointless and short meetings with doctors which would always result in you having to come back to see another doctor, which would again result in you having to see another doctor.... etc. This way they make a sh*tload of money for small issues that can normally be solved with 1 doctors visit!Again, probably the greatest place if you want to waste loads of time or for those that are looking for time away from work!
I couldn't have asked for a better way to welcome our first baby into the world..
AVOID! Not human. The worst hospital where I have ever been in my life. Been in +50 countries, in hospital's in +8 of them. First they let you wait for 2 hours, then they mention that they don't have any specialists (only by call). The gp sees you for 5-10min. Not any test are done. They close the emergency department at 8pm but make sure to send you very sick back home well before that. Completely uncualified, non senses procedures. If this place would be anywhere else in the world, it would be forced to close very quickly.
Rude, overpriced doctors. Can get better quality and service at Public hospitals. Besides the main lobby facilities over run.
Superb hospital with a great view
The quality of service in Matilda is very unstable.
Total scam, came in for observation of a stomach bug, got charged 2500 usd. Doctor came in and said how are you, we said fine. Charged us 3000 Hkd for the pleasure. Didn’t even explain the blood results.
Rooms are indeed shabby, like a old and cheap public hospital. Nursing services are non existent. If any, the nurses are rough, careless and rude. I had to do most things myself despite my surgery.
Upon first entering into the hospital you feel as if the hospital is high end with its colonial details at reception. For the price you'd expect nothing less than a Ritz Carlton. On the contrary, the rooms are outdated, shabby & reminiscent of a Best Western eagerly trying to get by on 2 star status. Extremely mediocre none the less. Complete waste of time and money. In addition to the horrendous facilities they try to mark up as "upscale" the doctors & admin are also the worst human beings that lack any sort of decency, courtesy or customer service that keep making yourself asking yourself - what in the world are you paying for? Absolutely avoid at all costs. You will lose at all angles.
Injury while traveling. He was very kind to me.
A very comfortable sanatorium
Stars like to help the hospital, can ask for a loan nurse, greedy they can not understand Cantonese. The private stability is high and the paparazzi are hard to get into the wind. The majority of patients are mostly borrowed and half of the doctors.
The medical staff is professional enough and the environment is very good ...
