About Indonesia

With over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is the largest island country in the world. Its huge size means it has massive potential for adventure. It has its share of curious wildlife and natural wonders, from Komodo Dragons and Orangutans to magnificent volcanoes and postcard-perfect islands. Besides its varied landscape, the country’s culture is very diverse as well, making it one of the world’s most interesting destinations.

In terms of medical tourism, Indonesia might not be as popular as its neighboring countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. However, the country actually does have the potential to emerge as the top medical tourism destination. The country’s government is currently planning to further develop the sector. Many hospitals and clinics in the country offer affordable, high-quality procedures, with modern technology and skilled medical practitioners. The country currently has 30 JCI-accredited hospitals.

Since Indonesia is a large country, domestic flights are the most convenient and fastest way to travel, but they can be rather expensive. Trains, available only on the island of Java and Sumatra, are good options to travel from one city to another. Buses are widely available all around the country. To travel from one island to another, ferry boats and speed boats are available as well. Traveling inside cities can be different in each region. In general, visitors can opt for motorcycle taxis, Angkutan Kota (Angkot), city buses, or motorcycle taxis. In big cities, such as Jakarta, visitors can enjoy an integrated public transport system.
